Don’t just put any servo in there. Most standard servos provided with a Tx/ Rx kit are “basic” and simply won’t handle the task required there and the effort from the water on our IOM rudder. Only 1 meter long but nevertheless the pressure on the rudder is still substantial. Well worth spending few bobs on a good servo. I decided to write this article since I lost control of my TS2 in medium conditions after the U-shape connector from the rudder rod to my Futaba S9202 snap clean. I did some research since and this is my findings. Below I have listed my short list of, in my view, the best servos able to do the job on our IOM boat. Hope this will help you in deciding which is the one for you.
The Pros
The digital micro processor is 10 times faster than an analog servo
The standing torque of a digital servo is 3 times that of its analog counterpart.
Programmable for failsafe
The cons
Higher power consumption than analog
