Wind : oooooppppssss forgot to order it !!!

On this bright and sunny Sunday morning we had 8 skippers who came from Cork, Wexford and Dublin to compete for the title of National Champion.

But right from the start we got delayed as Des’ electrics decided to go on strike so Des had to replace quite a few bits to get his boat on the start line of the first race. Andrew’s rudder stock went loose and would not hold the rudder rod tight so here again a bit of work done to bring his boat on time for the first race.

Nonetheless we started racing in rather light wind. But that was not the worst as not only the wind was shy it was undecided too. Serious shifts with wind holes meant that top places were swapped quite regularly. Could not predict anything until the finish line was crossed.

Oliver who didn’t sail since the last National last year capitalised by winning the first race and take a perfect start to the championship. Andrew, Gilbert battled for the top place then to be joined by John with a late wakening who ended up winning 3 races just before the break.

But mother nature was not going to make it easier for us as it decided to cool us off a bit after the burning us on the hot morning sun with some refreshing showers. Which incidentally killed the little wind we had. And just for topping the day the wind shortly came up during our break and after the 14 races were completed - just to tease us...

This year no one dominated the championships and more skippers actually won races to everyone’s satisfaction. But at the end Gilbert had managed to build a lead by being the most consistent at the top discarding a 5th and a 4th. And saved the cup from travelling down to Cork as both John and Andrew came close behind.

Thank you to each of you for taking part and Sailcases for their support
