One of the key strengths of the IOM class is the desire to maintain “simple” rules. This allows boat designers to remain creative in their hull shapes while still complying to these rules. It provides for a great choice of boats from a number of countries with different shapes and attributes. From very narrow boats like the tonic to the skiff design TS2. And yet they can all compete together in the same fleet.
In this article I would like to share with you some of the most popular IOM designs around. And please this is only a limited list as the number of IOM design is rather huge. My comments are based on my own experience and experience shared by other skippers. This is only aimed at informing you to these design and to give you a flavour of them.
