Our first  IOM East Coast Championships were held at Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club and I would like to thank :.

 

- Clontarf Yacht & Boat club for welcoming us to their club and sailing area and providing rescue, drivers and much needed sandwiches and drinks after the racing.

- Gilbert for organising the event

- all the competitors for turning up and make this a great event

 

Light wind but dry and even sunny. I said sunny not warm, nonetheless we were blessed with the weather considering the appalling weather we had the whole week leading to Sunday.

 

We started the day with our scheduled meeting. Minutes will be send to all members shortly. And shortly after 12 we got ready for racing. This time we had a dedicated umpire and OOD who directed by VHF the rescue to lay a great course.

 

Although we were still a good bit away from high water we had enough to start racing and we kicked off the first round of 4 races.  And as per previous event we expected Andrew to take an early lead and Andrew delivered, winning 3 of the first 4 races. Leaving one win to Gilbert in race 2. Alan Dwyer, the second skipper from Cork was showing what he could do with this TS2 in these light conditions.

 

As the high tide approach we moved the course to keep it in line with the wind. We benefited from steadier wind and a small chop developed. In these conditions the V6 of Gilbert Louis excelled and he ended up winning the remaining 6 races of the day.  It wasn’t without a fight from Andrew and Fergal who were never far away. Further back Des, Alan and Laurent exchanged places regularly.

 

This was another great event and we look forward to the National Championships later in November. Where no doubt John will be racing hard to defend his national title.
